I’ve been working with Judeth for the past few months and I would like to say that she is extremely down to earth, very easy to work with, organized and business savvy. She has coached me with a lot of business strategies mainly in the areas of speaking and has definitely helped put money in my pocket just by critiquing my presentations and offering her wisdom. I’m also very fortunate to receive a great video testimonial from her below:

Podcasting

Podcasting
Welcome to the new world of Podcasting, where people can record their voices and speak their mind. So what is Podcasting and how can you use it to increase your website effectiveness? First of all, a podcast is simply a recording of a speech made beforehand, a user would create a podcast and convert it to an audio format such as mp3.

Mp3s (Mpeg Layer 3) which is simply an audio file type, there are many different audio file types out there but Mp3s is currently the most widely used online and offline. When a person records an audio, they simply convert it to Mp3 format and upload it to their website. Visitors to that website can download the audio file (podcast) and begin listening to it using their own software such as Winamp or Windows Media Player. Some websites have a built in function where it displays the player controls so that you don’t need to download the podcast, you can simply listen to it straight off the website.

If you’re thinking of creating a Podcast for your website, a great tool I use on the PC is “Audacity” This free tool enables you to hook up your headphones with a mic and begin recording your audio. It’s very simple to use and easy to apply. Once you finish recording, you can listen to the new recording and trim certain sections if you wish. Once you’re happy with the final recording, you can then save out the file to Mp3 format. Done!

When you have finished creating your podcast and converting it to mp3, you can upload it to your website for the world to enjoy. There are many great podcasts out there, some of my favorites are Steve Pavlina and Yaro Starak.

So how can you use Podcasting as a means to effectively market your website? The power behind podcasting is that it can help you become an authority in your field of work. You position yourself in your industry and many people can connect with you online. Since you can not see your visitor and talk to them, you will need to do everything you can to bridge the gap between you and the visitor.

In my previous post, I talked about Viral Marketing. Podcasting (if created interestingly enough) can be a great form of viral marketing. If you record a super podcast that people MUST share with others and you mention your website link in the podcast, then your podcast will be spread fast… like a virus! Pretty soon, you will get more traffic to your site through the power of podcasting and viral marketing combined!

Writing Website Copy That Sells

Writing Web Copy That Sells

Writing web copy that sells your products and services is another vital skill you must acquire in order to produce suitable income from your website. When you write copy for your website, you must first consider who you are writing to. Whether you are writing to a target audience or a specific individual, you must understand the audience in which your writing your copy to.

In my previous article “How To Design Your Site For Online Success” I spoke about the importance of working out your goals before designing your website. The same principle also applies here, however, you are focusing on writing and talking to your target audience.

If your stuck in wondering how to write to your target audience, try to imagine sitting in front of the individual and not a mass audience. You will find that when you write content for an individual sitting right in front of you, your content will be worded differently as apposed to writing for an audience of 1,000 people. Remember, 98% of the time, it’s only one person who’s looking at your website at that moment and your website copy must speak to that one person. Also remember to keep your copy easy to read and understand. You’re writing copy for clarity and not to include complex terminology that confuses the reader (like some websites I’ve seen and won’t mention here). Also remember to check your speeling ;)

If your in a situation where you don’t feel as confident writing your own website copy, there are many options you can take to get your web site copy written for your website. So far, your options are:

  1. Hire a professional copywriter.
  2. Outsource the work to job markets that contain many enthusiastic writers.
  3. Learn to write copy yourself.
  4. Get your web designer to do it for you but inform them what you want included in the copy.

With the first option, if you hire a professional and credible copywriter, your web copy will be as effective as a hiring your own online salesman. Copywriters are powerful and persuasive people who understand the psychology behind people making purchases online. Some copywriters I know make an absolute killing with their copywriting skills because they produce so many sales from their website. However, their skills are not so affordable and can range between $5,000 - $20,000. So if you have the cash, it may be an ideal investment.

The second option you can take is to outsource your web copy work. There are great websites out there such as elance.com and rentacoder.com which contains thousands of people willing to work for you. Many people on these websites are offering to complete whatever online project they can get there hand on. The websites are very secure and have a great communication management system so you can keep track of your work. As a bonus, most people who offer to complete your project are very affordable and efficient. If you were to post your job to the masses, you may be able to get 10 articles written for only $7 per hour which perhaps translate to $60 in total.

The third option would be to learn how to write the content yourself. Now there are many books out there that you can purchase in which you can learn to write your own web copy. You can simply make a small investment into this specialized knowledge but at the end of the day, the knowledge is yours and you can apply it to various other projects not just your website… but your own published books.

The final option would be to simply hand the work over to your web designer/developer. Depending on the situation, if your web designer/developer has writing skills, it’s worth hiring their services to take the job on. However, most designers/developers are focused on only their core skills which is either designing websites or programming websites so make sure you find out if they possess they skills.

Remember, you can also start a blog website and just practice writing your thoughts and ideas, eventually practice makes perfect and before you know it, your words will be translated to cash transfered to your bank account.

Three Words That Goes Along Way

I’m now writing this blog entry at another Dome Cafe close to my house. I decided to get out of the house and into my nearest cafe to do some planning and minor work this morning.

I arrived here at around 8:00am and there were a few customers here already. One of the staff that was at the counter waited for me to order. As I approached her, she had a had a tired look on her face (as anyone would) and she said with a mono tone voice “What would you like to order today?” Before I answered, I asked her sincerely “How are you?” and her face lit up and she started telling me about how she wished she was at home, she shouldn’t be at work today on a Sunday morning and that she just wasn’t motivated today. It seemed that she was just bored and needed someone to talk to. After speaking with her for a few minutes, I ordered my cappuccino asked for the  wireless  internet password and  started working.

Here at Dome cafe, they give you 45 minutes free wireless internet, after that, you have to pay for any additional hours. When she bought out my coffee and breakfast, I realised that she kindly upgraded it to a large for free. Not only that, when my wireless Internet expired, she walked out and gave me another 45 minutes for free.

What I learnt today here was that when you enter a restaurant, cafe, shop…, respect the staff and remember that they also have a story to tell, perhaps they are in the middle of a relationship breakdown, perhaps they are just bored and tired, perhaps they wish they were somewhere else. They are also human too. Whatever the case may be, before you place your order, just ask them “How are you?”. Steven Covey from the book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” calls this “giving people Psychological Air” and I completely agree with that.

People need that Psychological Air and someone to listen to them, remember everyone is carrying a heavy load.
